  Reviving Crafts - Creating Livelihood

We invite you to browse our website to find out more about our vision and mission and how you can become part of the process.

Your custom will contribute towards creating sustainable income of the most marginalised communities in Pakistan. Thank you for being with us.

From time to time our artisans show us their embroidered family heir looms. The picture on the left shows one of them, which is an old tabocca pouch, used mainly by men. In some areas of Pakistan these are still in circulation. Sadly however, this tradition is slowing dying out. Click on the picture to see more of these beautifully embellished pouches.

Supporting and strengthening rural communities in Pakistan

The Enterprise Development Programme (EDP) is an integral part of our Sustainable Livelihood Programme that works with an objective to “Improve local livelihoods through economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sensible use of local resources”.

The craft skills are a readily available means to generate income for the most marginalized communities and enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the rural craft persons.

This involvement of the women in the economic processes defines a new role for them, a role which traditionally has been non-existent in Pakistan. As per Sungi’s mission; to uplift marginalized Women partners, the Enterprise Development Programme aspires to have a major impact on women’s mobilization.

EDP aims to reduce poverty and improve livelihood rights of the most marginalized communities. This is achieved through capacity building, effective linkages, and advocating for the rights of woman home based workers at various levels for legislation / policy reforms.

Small enterprises established at house hold level and especially by marginalized women, contribute to considerable improved standards of living together with social integration which supports and strengthens each person's life on all level. We encourage creativity and community work.
